When trying to decide what kind of laminate countertop you once you install in your home, it is important to take a step back look at your kitchen, and decide what kind of color and texture would best accent your existing furniture and paint colors.

You can visit any of your local retail hardware stores such as Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Ace Hardware. Many of these retail stores carry Formica samples also known as Formica chips that you can take home with you and physically hold in your kitchen to see if the color will match up well. It is best to get down at countertop level while holding the Formica sample against a cabinet. Then randomly select different walls and furniture in your kitchen and hold the Formica sample against them all.

You should select at least 10 Formica samples to take home with you at a time. Then when you think you have found the color that will suit you the best, make sure to sleep on it. If the next morning you pick up a sample and look at it again and decide that it’s really what you want, then it is time for you to invest the money to purchase the Formica countertop you want.

If for some reason you do not like the Formica countertop after you have had it installed, it is a good thing that Formica laminate countertops are somewhat inexpensive, so if worst case scenario is it needs to be replaced, at least you will not be out thousands of dollars like you would be with granite.
